Typeface evaluation.
The typeface is coming along quite nicely. Applying the angles into a legible and consistant typeface is proving to be tricky but it;s a fun process. At the moment I'm just sketching out different letters at a rather slow pace and in a random order. This needs to change. I'm also focusing on upper case at this moment in time so I would need to experiment with lower case.
Watching type documentaries, Matthew Carter suggests starting with the lower case "h" as it tells him first of all if it's a serif or sans serif typeface. He asks What's the nature of the serif? (if it is a serif typeface) is it a fixed width typeface? what are the proportions of the overall height? Because the "h" is a straight sided letter, he would then move on to a round letter like an "o". This way he could get a sense of weight and if it balances correctly with the weight of the "h". Then he would do the letter "p" because it's half round half straight, has a descender.
and also can become a "d" or
Already there is a DNA being built and that's what In need to refine.
With the lower case "h" you have a bit of information of how the "n" or "u" would look.
The same with the "p" it could become a "d" or "q"
so these are a few things I should bear in mind.
Action plan -
Move faster.
Try lower case.
Experiment with different weights
Try the typeface out on real words (context)
