First I printed of a photo of one of the disasters. I chose the one with the most damage for dramatic effect. I then ripped it up, puzzled it back together (not too neatly as I wanted to show the ripped edges) and scanned in the result.

I placed it into photoshop and distorted the levels. And worked my type around it.
