As part of my range I'm designing beer coasters. These will sit at pubs and, like the bottle caps, can be a collectible item. I want the coasters to stand out from the ordinary ones you would see at a pub.
Firstly I just took my circular logo as it worked best for a coaster, left it how it was and printed it on the black and white laser printer. I had left it black and white for that it would be open to colour suggestions in the crit.
This was only to make a mock up for crit but I think it works quite well. It maintains the shape and everything else about the logo whilst giving it function at the same time.
COLOUR.
At the crit session, Lorenzo mentioned that most of the class hadn't even considered colour and everything was black and white. As previously mentioned, I had left my mock up black and white so that it would be open to colour suggestions
but as soon as Lorenzo mentioned it , my head was full of colour. I also want my coaster to stand out from the rest so it would make sense to try out some bright colours to get people's attention.
My response to this coaster. I went with a coaster that followed the shape of my logo. I applied the strong blue a gold stroke to the coaster.
This time I've applied the gold to the barley and pint glass. The strong use of gold as a sense of royalty to the design which wasn't intended but has become very welcome. The colours could stand for Strength, royalty, loyalty and trust. Everything that HOB brewery believes in. At the crit session people mentioned that I had just stuck the logo on a coaster and it seemed abit lazy. This was a very fair point and it's true. I don't want to just place my logo on everything and say I'm finished. I want everything that I am applying the logo to, to be considered. I've added the EST_D Year because you often see it on coasters.
Here are some further designs -
10CM X 10CM Rounded Square with a corner radius of 10PX.
I thought the blue was abit intense so I used the blue for only the type and imagery whilst adding a gold stroke to elements of the logo such as the barley.
